Two silver medal successes with Shimano Rowing Dynamics at the European rowing championships.
The European championships this year took place in sunny Seville, Spain. This was the first big international tournament of the 2013 season. For the top crews of most European countries this was the first time test their strength after summer Olympics in London.
This time, four crews started this regatta with Shimano Rowing Dynamics. The Dutch M4x showed some very solid racing and ended up winning their heat on Friday. Due to some misfortune in their semi final they didn't make final A. However, they managed to obtain a second place in final B. We look forward to their racing in Eton!
The Dutch LM2x had to compete in one of the best filled fields of the regatta. This young crew consisting of the Muda twins managed to get a decent third place in final B in their first regatta in this boat class.
The other two crews competing with SRD were German single sculler Marcel Hacker and the polish M8+. Hacker won both his heat and the semi final. In the final, Hacker raced Olympic silver medalist Synek for the gold medal. After an exciting and strong race Hacker ended up in second place and brought home the Silver medal and thereby winning his first medal for SRD this season.
The Polish M8+ already had to race Olympic champion Germany and the fast French eight in the first heat. After a slow start a solid race and a great finish, they took second place and directly progressed to Sunday's final. Traditionally the final of the eights was the last race of the regatta. In a close final the Polish eight raced both Germany and the Netherlands for the medals. Thanks to their strong sprint finish, they were able to win the silver over the Netherlands and behind Germany.
With two silver medals at the first international FISA event of 2013, SRD is proving itself in racing once more. We are looking forward to the races at WC2 in Eton and hope to see you there!
